Most important will be who will play the four pensioners that make up the titular crime-solving group: former spy Elizabeth Best, trades union official Ron Ritchie, nurse Joyce Meadowcraft and psychiatrist Ibrahim Arif. We don't yet have any official cast confirmations for The Thursday Murder Club, but if filming does start this year, we'd hope to get the announcements sooner rather than later. Here We Go Again and Ticket to Paradise's Ol Parker was confirmed to direct the movie in March 2020. The Thursday Murder Club is the first of four novels in Osman’s series about four pensioners solving crime, so there is the potential for three sequels if the first movie is a success – but we still have a while to wait before we find out if more movies in the series are possible. Osman sold the rights to his first book to Steven Spielberg’s production company Amblin, and revealed the reason the Jaws director was on board: “I think he read it and liked it.” Former Pointless TV presenter Richard Osman announced back in 2020 that a movie version of his best-selling novel The Thursday Murder Club was on the cards, and thanks to a recent update it looks like the film is finally set to be made.
